Homeless Woman Cycles Between Streets And Hotels After Husband Dies

Homeless Woman Cycles Between Streets And Hotels After Husband Dies
At 58, Ella's story is a stark reminder of how quickly life can change. Just last night, she braved the biting cold, sleeping outside in a chilling 30 degrees with the wind adding to the risk of death. Fortunately, she found a brief respite in a hotel, where we met her.

Life took a turn for Ella after her husband passed away. With her disability preventing her from working, she's been struggling to make ends meet. Her disability income barely covers a few hotel nights, after which she's often left to rely on the kindness of others for shelter and food. The cycle of short-term hotel stays is a harsh reality for many with limited income, making the dream of renting an apartment seem unattainable. Weekly-rate hotels often become a trap.

Ella's situation isn't unique. Senior homelessness is on the rise, just as housing costs continue to skyrocket. It's a looming crisis – a perfect storm of homelessness. We need to take action to reach out to our legislators and advocate for solutions to the affordable housing crisis for Ella and countless others in her situation.

Ella's hotel stay is provided by Paul Kruse. Paul has helped 1,800 homeless families and individuals this year. Both Paul and his wife work tirelessly to help homeless people in the Wentzville area http://firststepbackhome.net

My response to the video
I'm sorry she is homeless, BUT there are ways she can help herself. She has to want to!

Do whatever it takes to get to the city. She can find more resources there if family can't/won't help.

Apply to Housing (LOW INCOME charges 30%+ of one's income), medical, food, etc. Some of them even provide meal programs depending on one's age.

Low income housing communities usually have buses to take them grocery shopping or there is always home delivery.

There are government agencies that provide telephones FOR FREE with unlimited text and service.

And the more she talks negatively the more negativity one will get out of her life.

She's ALREADY on disability and with that she can access MANY programs. GET TO THE CITY!

P.S. Mom and I were homeless as a result of abuse, so we know what it's like. I was 19 months old at the time. We went to a shelter, because we didn't have family.

We pulled ourselves up by the boot straps and did whatever it took. Mom is disabled as a result of the abuse, living in low income housing (charges 30% of her income for rent).

She got dental care through the local dental school. Bad teeth releases toxins into one's body making one sick. Mom got dentures as a result of the abuse.

And mom has CPTSD from the abuse. So, she does have mental health challenges. She's fought hard to overcome her challenges.

Yes, it's difficult to ask your adult children, BUT one has to overcome their pride. Ella's got income. She could help with rent. IF they find out her troubles and she refused to ask for help they could be MAD!

ASK!

Call Colorado Coalition for the Homeless (303-293-2217) and see if they have Rural Initiative locations in her state or know of any resources.

And lastly...1-2 minutes into the video, and then throughout, you can see her hands. It's OBVIOUS she's getting French Manicures. Those cost about $35 or more. STOP GETTING MANICURES! Start saving that money.

Senior in parking lot
Video from Pubity at https://www.tiktok.com/@pubity

EVERY senior community needs an inoperable car with working radio in their parking lot. That way the senior can sit in it rocking out for the memories. For some that might be the only joy they have in life, especially if their families have taken them to senior communities or nursing homes and rarely, if ever, visit.

We think ALL HUD housing needs Solar. Just think of all the money they'd save the government!

Susan Auslander, age 89, Spearheaded a Solar-Energy Drive in Connecticut and it worked!

An octogenarian Hunter College alumna has spearheaded a successful drive to install solar panels throughout her Connecticut retirement community — and she’s just getting started.

(This was not for low income housing, but it could be.)

In what seemed like a futile fight with her retirement community’s management, Susan Auslander, just shy of 90, found an opening.
